Society for Social Regeneration
& Equity (SSRE), established in 2013, is the only NGO in South Asia devoted
to the task of raising Holocaust awareness with the objective of preventing the occurrence
of mass violence, sadly so frequent in this part of the world. To this end, it
has awarded internships to a number of postgraduate students in India under its
youth outreach programme to raise Holocaust awareness by screening films on the
Shoah (Holocaust) as stimulants for
discussion. In January 2015 it staged the first ever Holocaust themed Hindi
language play, Sipāhi (Soldier), at
the Gautam Buddha University, Greater NOIDA, UP, India. It is also active on
social media through its group on Facebook, Holocaust Awareness in South Asia:
An SSRE Initiative. It is glad to join the Middle East Institute at New Delhi
and the O P Jindal Global University in organising this international
multidisciplinary conference on Mass Violence and Memory with the aim of
stimulating South Asian scholarly interest in the Holocaust and paving the way
for the introduction of Holocaust Studies as an academic discipline in India.
SSRE and its fellow organizers of the conference are supported in this
endeavour by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. It also plans to hold
a Holocaust Films Retrospective at campuses across the National Capital Region
(NCR) of Delhi in the near future. One can read more about it on
